Shelley McGuire. At 49 years old, Shelley has faced her share of challenges, having been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at just 27. But instead of letting this condition define her, she’s turned her experience into a powerful force for good in her community.

Community Advocate
Shelley recently founded the Newport Arthritis Support Group, providing a safe space for others dealing with similar health issues. Her goal? To offer support, share experiences, and foster a sense of community among those affected by arthritis. Through the Healing Elements group, Shelley and other members of the peer social group take on activities that enable them to enjoy the outdoors. Many have mobility issues and mental health conditions.
Leadership Role
Beyond her support group, Shelley is also the Chair of the Joint Customer Panel now called Buzz at Hedyn. Here, she plays a crucial role in ensuring that the voices of residents are heard and that services are delivered effectively.
Having experience in community radio, where Shelley led as Station manager, presenter and producer as well as being a qualified community development officer with experience in third sector.
